Bec Davidson inspires future hospitality stars
Bec Davidson is transforming the future of hospitality at TAFE Queensland’s Pimlico campus.
With over 20 years in the industry, Bec Davidson is a seasoned expert who brings her passion for hospitality to life in the classroom, where she teaches Certificate II in Hospitality (SIT20322), Certificate II in Cookery (SIT20421), and Certificate III in Hospitality (SIT30622).
“Hospitality is all I know,” Bec said, reflecting on her journey that began in a café. “I started out there, moved on to my apprenticeship, and worked my way up to become a head chef. When I decided to start a family, I knew I wanted to give back by teaching.”
For the past 10 years, Bec has embraced the challenges of teaching, especially when working with students with diverse needs.
“When students come to me, they often lack confidence and communication skills. It’s incredible to see them grow and flourish throughout the year,” she shared. “This is the most rewarding and challenging role I’ve ever had, and it’s honestly the highlight of my week.”
“It’s so rewarding to nurture these students and lead them to positive outcomes by the end of the year. I’ve learned so much as a teacher through this program,” Bec said. “I want my students to leave with the self-belief that they can achieve great things.”
Bec’s approach focuses on hands-on learning and real-world applications. “I’ve learned different ways to keep the students engaged,” she said. “I set the bar high because I believe in my students. With a little push, they can accomplish great things.”
Some of the standout projects Bec has spearheaded are the Magical Mocktail competition, and the La Rose Noire pastry competition.
“Working on these competitions has been a huge highlight for me. It gives students a chance to showcase their creativity and skills while measuring themselves against industry professionals,” she explained.
“Seeing them persevere and achieve their goals gives me goosebumps. When I set the bar a little higher, they often excel beyond my expectations.”
Reflecting on her teaching philosophy, Bec added, “You have to learn adaptability. If something isn’t working, I think, ‘What else can I do to meet my students’ needs?’ It’s all about finding the right approach for each individual.”
Bec is well regarded amongst her peers throughout the state, celebrated for her commitment to empowering students.
As she continues to inspire the next generation of hospitality professionals, Bec Davidson is paving the way for her students to succeed in a vibrant industry.
“The most rewarding part of my role is witnessing the outcomes of my students,” she concluded. “Seeing them grow as individuals, adopting the skills and knowledge I’ve shared, is fulfilling. I’m proud to be a part of their journey.”
