Course overview

This course assumes the student does not know Autodesk AutoCAD, and so the course begins with the basics.
This AutoCAD course is designed to allow students who have minimal or no experience to learn about the essential topics for working with the AutoCAD software.

Students are introduced to the drafting capabilities of the program, followed by the modifying/editing functions. Various exercises and architectural drawings are offered.

Using AutoCAD 2024 software, the functions covered include

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

Selection criteria
  • As this is a fast paced beginners course, course prerequisites are that you have previous experience using applications on a PC or Mac and are capable of navigating around your computer, saving files and have an understanding of folder structure.
  • This course requires a solid understanding of computers, importing, locating and opening files on a PC platform.
  • It is also required that students have a working knowledge of the internet.
  • Students must have intermediate computer skills using Windows before enrolling in this course as they will use computers running Windows in class.

Resources required

After enrolment:

  • For practicing at home in between lessons (not mandatory) - you will need to download the AutoCAD 2024 student edition from the Autodesk website. You will be prompted to upload your Confirmation of Enrolment from TAFE that you received upon enrolment.  Please try and have this installed before your first lesson. Note - You will be using TAFE computers in class time.

You will be required to bring the following to class:

  • pen and paper for note taking and a memory stick/USB flash drive for saving your work and taking your files home

Please note: There are no canteen facilities at Coomera over the weekend or in the evenings so you are advised to bring your own refreshments.

  • We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes early to get checked in and settled as class starts on time.
  • We recommend using public transport or
  • If you are driving, BEFORE you arrive, please download the EasyPark App, set up your account and in the Search bar at top of the screen, type ‘Tafe’ and select the appropriate parking area to set as your location – something similar to this will appear- Care Park Australia street parking, private, 1 day duration.
  • We highly recommend you download the app and enter the details prior to arriving as there may be no signal in the basement. If you have any issues reach out to security on campus located on the ground floor near the lifts.
  • Parking can be accessed via Paddington Place. ONLY park in the spaces marked with the Red TAFE Queensland logo on the ground on either B1 or B2 to avoid being fined by Easy Park. 
    Please be aware that parking spaces can fill early.

Please note: The Seedpod Cafe on site at our Robina Campus is not open for business on the weekend or in the evenings so you are advised to bring your own refreshments.
The Green Fields restaurant & bar on site at our Robina Campus is open from 4pm-9pm most days of the week. Green Fields information.
