Course overview

In this short course, you will learn how to produce 2D drawings, 3D models and digital presentations using the industry-standard BIM software Autodesk Revit.

You will gain skills in creating and editing building components using basic structural framing systems, dimensioning, annotating and setting up views and sheets.

This is an ideal course for building designers, interior designers and technicians.

Selection criteria
  • Computer skills are essential
  • Skills in CAD software is recommended
  • Basic understanding of an architectural floor plan

If you are under the age of 17 years, special enrolment conditions may apply.

Resources required

It is recommended that students have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with capacity to run Revit software, as well as Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for students to use at all TAFE Queensland locations. Note: Gold Coast students are not required to access Connect.

For online courses and practicing at home in between lessons - you can download the  RevitCAD 2023 student edition from the Autodesk website. You will be prompted to enter your TAFE Queensland Student Number, which is outlined on your Confirmation of Enrolment or receipt.

Gold Coast

  • Please bring a pen (blue or black), exercise book or notepaper, highlighter pen, memory stick/USB drive (2GB minimum) for saving of projects for use on your home computer.  A calculator is optional.
  • You will have access to individual hi-spec computer (PC) terminals in class time.
     
  • We recommend using public transport or
  • If you are driving, BEFORE you arrive, please download the EasyPark App, set up your account and in the Search bar at top of the screen, type ‘Tafe’ and select the appropriate parking area to set as your location – something similar to this will appear- Care Park Australia street parking, private, 1 day duration.
  • We highly recommend you download the app and enter the details prior to arriving as there may be no signal in the basement. If you have any issues reach out to security on campus located on the ground floor near the lifts.
  • Parking can be accessed via Paddington Place. ONLY park in the spaces marked with the Red TAFE Queensland logo on the ground on either B1 or B2 to avoid being fined by Easy Park. 
    Please be aware that parking spaces can fill early.


Please note: The Seedpod Cafe on site at our Robina Campus is not open for business on the weekend or in the evenings so you are advised to bring your own refreshments.
The Green Fields restaurant & bar on site at our Robina Campus is open from 4pm-9pm most days of the week. Green Fields information.

Gold Coast
This course will enable the student to produce a basic set of residential house plans suitable for analysis by a licenced Building Designer, Architect or Structural Engineer.
(Please Note: It is not legal for individuals without a current Building Services Authority (BSA) Building Design Licence to submit architectural plans to local authorities).

You will develop basic knowledge in the Revit Architecture interface including: understanding levels, creation of the 3D model, creation of 2D views (elevations and section), creation and import of a base site plan, creation of a floor plan including slab, walls, windows, doors, creation of a roof (including fascia/gutter), basic dimensioning and notation.

Course commencement is subject to minimum enrolment numbers.
