Course overview

Activate your career in justice and law enforcement with this diploma qualification. This course will provide you with a greater understanding of the skills and knowledge required to function within the challenging justice sector.

According to the Australian Government the number of people employed by the Police Service is expected to grow strongly over the next five years. This is a very large occupational field with around 9,000 job openings expected in the next five years. 

This course equips you with the advanced skills to work effectively within the crime and justice sector. You will develop an innovative understanding of justice-related areas including legislation and legal frameworks, social justice, crime and corrections. This course has been designed in conjunction with industry practitioners from the Queensland Police Service, The Department of Justice and Attorney General, Australian Federal Police, Queensland Corrective Services, Brisbane City Council and Australian Border Force. TAFE Queensland's teachers and guest lecturers have extensive industry experience.

Successful completion of this course will open up employment opportunities within the correctional, police, customs, court services, compliance and justice related areas.

VET Student Loan - $12,063 cap

The VET Student Loans program assists eligible students enrolled in approved courses to pay their tuition fees.  The Australian Government charges full fee-paying (non-subsidised) students a 20 per cent loan fee in addition to their tuition fees.  A VET Student Loan is a debt that must be repaid.

Entry requirements

It is beneficial for those seeking entry into the Diploma satisfy at least one of the entry requirements provided below:

  • successful completion of a Certificate IV in Crime and Justice Studies; or
  • successful completion of a Certificate IV qualification; or
  • completion of Year 12 or equivalent with a sound achievement in English; or
  • relevant work or life experience in the business or justice fields.

Resources required

It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Reader. This equipment and software is available for use at most TAFE Queensland locations.

You will be provided with a recommended reading list and/or required textbooks during orientation or at the start of each unit. The purchase of these resources may incur additional costs, or you may be able to borrow them from the TAFE Queensland library network.

Robina campus

The Robina campus will be a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) campus for general learning.  Students are able to access discounted pricing for device purchases via JB Hi-Fi.  TAFE Queensland will have some portable devices available for short term loan and there will also be a limited number of desktop computers located on-site that students will be able to access.  For all the details visit the BYOD page on our website. 

Important information

Gold Coast
The Southport delivery is only available to students who have successfully completed the 10971NAT Certificate IV in Justice Studies as the intake will only be delivering 8 units.

Students who have completed the Certificate IV in Justice Studies outside TAFE Queensland, or are missing the required electives, may be required to complete extra units for an additional price.

Order of Study
When studying Online self-directed it is strongly recommended students follow the order of study and enrol in no more than two units per intake or the units required to complete one cluster/stage, unless otherwise advised.
